The Strymon EC-1 Single Head dTape Echo is a sophisticated digital delay pedal that meticulously recreates the sound and feel of a classic, single-head, tube-driven tape echo unit, specifically inspired by a modified Echoplex EP-2.
It leverages Strymon's acclaimed dTape technology to model all the subtle imperfections that make tape echo so desirable, but packages it into a compact, modern, and highly-tweakable pedal with full stereo and MIDI capabilities.
TimeControls the delay time, from a quick slapback (50ms) up to 1 second.Emulates physically moving the record head. Has glitchless Tap Tempo.
MixControls the blend of the dry signal and the wet (delay) signal.Classic delay mix control.
RepeatsControls the number of echo repeats, from a single repeat to near-infinite oscillation.Controls the feedback loop of the virtual tape.
Tape AgeAdjusts the tone of the repeats, from bright and clear (new tape) to dark, warbly, and lo-fi (worn tape).Models the wear of the tape itself and frequency degradation.
MechanicsIntroduces random, subtle pitch and volume fluctuations ("wow and flutter") and other mechanical artifacts.Models the inconsistencies of the motor, capstan, and tape splicing.
Rec Level (Toggle)A three-position switch (Low, Med, High) that controls the gain going into the virtual record head.Low: Cleanest repeats. Med (+6dB): Subtle saturation. High (+12dB): Heavy, compressed, and saturated repeats.
Preamp (Hidden)Selectable preamp voices, which affect both the dry and wet signals.Models the tube preamp of the EP-2: a Stock EP-2 and a Cesar Diaz-Modded EP-2 version.
I/OTrue stereo input and output via TRS jacks, with a selectable routing switch.Supports Mono In → Mono Out, Mono In → Stereo Out, or Stereo In → Stereo Out.
ConnectivityFeatures an EXP/MIDI jack and a USB-C port.Allows for external control, MIDI sync, and up to 300 presets
