The DigiTech Whammy is one of the most famous and recognizable guitar effects pedals ever made. Instantly identifiable by its bright red metal chassis and large expression treadle, it is a digital pitch-shifting pedal that allows guitarists to manipulate the pitch of their instrument in real-time.
Unlike a standard mechanical tremolo arm (or "whammy bar") on a guitar, which physically alters string tension, the DigiTech Whammy uses digital processing to bend notes. Rocking the foot pedal forward or backward smoothly slides the pitch up or down across wide intervals.
