The 2002 Fender American Series HS Telecaster was a distinct variation of the standard American Series (the successor to the American Standard). It was designed for players who wanted the classic Telecaster "twang" in the bridge but needed the "fat," warm output of a humbucker in the neck.
The "HS" designation refers to the Humbucker/Single-coil configuration:
Neck Pickup:Fender Atomic II Humbucker. This is an Alnico 2 pickup known for being smooth, warm, and musical—pairing surprisingly well with the brightness of a Telecaster.
Bridge Pickup:American Series Single-Coil. A high-output Alnico V pickup that provides the traditional Telecaster bite and "snap."
Controls: Master Volume and a "Delta Tone" system. The tone control features a "No-Load" potentiometer that stays out of the circuit when turned to 10, giving you the purest signal possible from the bridge pickup.
