The Fender American Special Jazzmaster was a US-made guitar that aimed to offer a simplified, high-performance take on the classic offset design at a more accessible price point than other American series models. It departed from the traditional vintage Jazzmaster specifications in several key areas to create a modern, "stripped-down, full-voiced marvel.
Pickups: It featured Dual Jazzmaster Special Humbucking pickups (an HH configuration). This gave the guitar a much higher output, hotter tone suitable for rock, blues, and heavier genres, replacing the traditional wide, low-output single-coil Jazzmaster pickups.
Bridge/Tremolo System: It replaced the traditional "floating" vibrato system and bridge with a fixed Adjusto-Matic bridge and an Anchored Tailpiece. This modification significantly improved tuning stability and intonation for many players
