At its heart, the Grey Stache is based on the highly coveted "Civil War" era Sovtek Big Muff. Known for its massive, dark low-end, smooth sustain, and focus on the lower-mid frequencies, this specific Muff variant is a staple for doom metal, stoner rock, shoegaze, and grunge.

However, Fuzzrocious took the original schematic and fixed its biggest flaw: the lack of midrange control.

Key Controls & Tone Shaping

The standard four-knob interface gives you:

• Volume (V): Controls the overall output. There is a massive amount of volume on tap to push tube preamps into natural clipping.
• Sustain (S): Controls the amount of fuzz/distortion. Dialing this back yields a surprisingly dynamic, crumbly overdrive.
• Tone (T): The classic high/low sweep.
• Mids (M): The secret weapon. Traditional Muffs have scooped mids, which can make you get lost in a live band mix. The Grey Stache’s dedicated Mids knob lets you sweep from a classic deep scoop, to a flat EQ, all the way to a heavy mid-boost that cuts through drums and bass with surgical precision.
