The
JHS Smiley Fuzz
is another cornerstone of JHS’s Legends of Fuzz series. Subtitled "1969 London," it is a faithful recreation of the late-1960s silicon-transistor Arbiter Fuzz Face—the exact style of Fuzz Face that Jimi Hendrix famously preferred for its aggressive bite and stability on stage.
Core Architecture & Sound
1969 Silicon Circuitry:Early Fuzz Faces used germanium transistors, but Arbiter switched to silicon in 1969. Silicon provided a brighter, punchier midrange bite, tighter low-end response, and far greater stability under stage heat.
Exceptional Dynamic Cleanup:Like any great vintage Fuzz Face, the Smiley responds dramatically to your guitar’s volume knob.Rolling back the volume cleans up the fuzz into a crisp, glassy rhythm tone or crunchy overdrive without losing detail.
Vintage Wedge Chassis:Features the same custom wedge-shaped metal enclosure used across the Legends of Fuzz series with retro-styled controls and badging.
