The Martin 000-15SM is a standout in Martin's 15 Series, offering a distinct nod to pre-war acoustic design. While the standard 000-15M is already a favorite for its warm, woody voice, the "S" version brings two major changes: a 12-fret neck joint and a classic slotted headstock.

It’s an absolute powerhouse for fingerstyle, blues, and roots music, combining a dark, focused aesthetic with an incredibly expressive acoustic personality.

• All-Solid Mahogany: The top, back, sides, and neck are all solid mahogany (or occasionally sapele, though Martin primarily uses mahogany for these), treated with a smooth, dark satin finish.
• 12-Fret Design: Unlike standard 14-fret guitars, the neck meets the body at the 12th fret. This shifts the bridge further down into the "sweet spot" of the lower bout, elongating the body and changing the acoustic physics of the top.
• Slotted Headstock: Coupled with open-gear Golden Age relic tuners, the slotted headstock provides a sharper break angle over the bone nut, adding a bit of extra tension and vintage swagger.
• Because it's a solid-mahogany box, the 000-15SM skips the bright, crystalline high-end sizzle of a spruce top. Instead, you get a punchy, mid-range forward sound that is exceptionally warm, dry, and balanced.

Because the 12-fret body layout moves the bridge deeper into the soundboard's center, it pushes a surprising amount of low-end depth and airy resonance for a mid-sized guitar. It has an immediate, compressed dynamic response—meaning it barks beautifully when you dig in with a pick, but responds with sweet, vocal clarity when plucked with bare fingers.
