The NUX Fireman Distortion (NDS-5) is a significant step up from the mini-pedal "Brownie." While it also targets the legendary "Brown Sound," it moves into the Verdugo Series territory, offering a much more sophisticated, dual-channel, amp-in-a-box experience. It is widely known to be based on the Friedman BE-OD, providing that high-gain, boutique British "hot-rod" tone.

Dual Channels: You have two completely independent Gain and Volume controls. This allows you to set Channel 1 for a crunchy rhythm and Channel 2 for a saturated lead with a volume boost, switching between them with the A/B footswitch.

4-Band Tone Shaping: Unlike simpler distortion pedals, this features Bass, Treble, Presence, and a Tight knob. The "Tight" control is crucial—it lets you roll off sub-low frequencies to keep high-gain riffs articulate and punchy rather than "flubby."

Voltage Switching (9V/18V): A toggle on the back allows you to switch the internal operation between 9V and 18V. Running at 18V provides significantly more headroom, wider dynamic range, and less compression, which makes the pedal feel more like a real tube amp.

Bypass Modes: You can toggle between True Bypass and Buffer Bypass, allowing you to choose the best option for your specific pedalboard signal chain
