Body Shape & Tonewoods

The AD17e uses the Grand Pacific body shape—a round-shoulder dreadnought that aims for a "seasoned" vintage sound. Unlike traditional square-shoulder dreadnoughts that can be "boomy" or muddy in the low end, the Grand Pacific produces clear, overlapping notes that blend smoothly.

• Top: Solid Sitka Spruce (provides a wide dynamic range and crisp articulation).
• Back & Sides: Solid Ovangkol (tonally similar to Rosewood but with a slightly fuller midrange and bright treble).
  • Note: Some newer iterations may use Solid Walnut, which offers a woodier, more mahogany-like character.
• Fretboard & Bridge: Eucalyptus (a sustainable alternative to Ebony that maintains a similar feel and response).

Key Technical Features

• V-Class Bracing: This is Taylor’s revolutionary internal architecture. It increases volume and sustain while drastically improving intonation, ensuring notes stay in tune with each other all the way up the neck.
• Chamfered Edges: The body edges are rounded off, making the large dreadnought shape significantly more comfortable against your picking arm.
• Expression System 2 (ES2): Features Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup. Unlike standard undersaddle piezos, the ES2 uses three calibrated sensors to capture a more natural, dynamic acoustic "air" when plugged in.
• Matte Finish: An ultra-thin 2-mil matte finish allows the wood to vibrate more freely than thick gloss, contributing to a more resonant, open sound out of the box.
