Yamaha BB435 5-String Bass – Black

The Yamaha BB435 is one of those basses that quietly delivers considerably more than its price point suggests. Built around Yamaha's long-running Broadbass design, the BB435 combines traditional passive P/J versatility with a modern five-string neck and a low B that makes it equally comfortable covering classic bass duties or contemporary extended-range work.

The gloss Black alder body is paired with Yamaha's particularly stable five-piece maple/mahogany neck, joined to the body with the company's six-bolt miter neck joint. A rosewood fingerboard, 34" scale and very flat 23 5/8" radius give the BB435 a fast, modern playing feel without losing the familiar character of a traditional BB.

Electronics are refreshingly straightforward: an Alnico V split-coil neck pickup and Alnico V single-coil bridge pickup, controlled by individual pickup volumes and a master tone. Run the neck pickup alone for the familiar punch and weight of a P-style bass, bring in the bridge pickup for added definition, or blend the two for everything in between. There are no batteries or active electronics to worry about.

Yamaha's convertible Vintage Plus Light bridge allows conventional or through-body stringing, while lightweight open-gear tuners help keep the instrument balanced.

This example presents exceptionally well in its gloss Black finish. Based on our inspection of the instrument and photographs, we see only normal evidence of careful handling and no highly irregular cosmetic defects, cracks or repairs.
